Transcriber's Note
The original text used a Prescription Take symbol, ℞, to indicaterecipe numbers. There are also some characters with a macron oroverline (straight line) above them. You may need to adjust yourfont settings for these to display properly.
The many inconsistencies in hyphenation and use of accents andligatures have been preserved as printed, with a few exceptions.Variable and archaic spelling has also been preserved. A fulllist of amendments and other notes follow the end of the book.
A considerable number of the recipe and page numbers in theindex are incorrect; however, they have been preserved asprinted. The transcriber has, as far as possible, linked tothe correct place in the text. Where the reference could not bedetermined, the numbers remain unlinked.
