This was a catalog from a magazine subscription agency MANYYEARS AGO. It is presented in order to show a cross section ofthe periodicals for the general public, and some professionaljournals, published in the USA at that time, and the kinds ofsubscription prices they asked. Obviously, the offers are NOLONGER AVAILABLE and most of these periodicals are no longerpublished! The only other thing I know about Mr. Cottrell isthat he was apparently an avid player of horseshoe pitching.
The booklet had 40 octavo size pages and there were two formsinserted loose into its pages; the contents of those formsappear at the end of this document. The booklet itself hadfour kinds of content. 1) Instructions and self-promotion byD. D. Cottrell. 2) Advertisements inserted by variouspublishers. 3) An extensive alphabetical list of theAmerican publications offered via the company. 4) An extensivevariety of "club lists"—offers of an even more special priceon particular combinations of two or more magazines, notnecessarily from the same publisher. This was a commonpractice at the time. Comments in square brackets, other thanthe footnotes, were added during the process of transcribingthe booklet to an etext.
