EDITORIAL FOREWORD

To be successful in woodwork construction thepossession of two secrets is essential—to knowthe right joint to use, and to know how to make thatjoint in the right way. The woodwork structureor the piece of cabinet-work that endures is theone on which skilful hands have combined to carryout what the constructive mind planned. And it isjust here that the present Volume will help, not alonethe beginner who wishes preliminary instruction, butalso the expert who desires guidance over groundhitherto unexplored by him.

In the preparation of this new edition the Publishershave secured the services of Mr. William Fairham, bywhom the chapters have been carefully revised andre-illustrated. Although intended for the practicalman, and not professing to be a graded course of"educational woodwork," the Volume is one whichHandicraft Instructors will find of the greatest valuein conducting woodwork classes. No book hithertopublished contains such a variety of illustrations ofjoints, almost all of which will form suitable exercisesof practical educational importance in a woodworkingcourse.
