The last Public Proclamation made by His late Majesty King KamehamehaIII.

PROCLAMATION.

Whereas, It has come to my knowledge from the highest officialsources, that my Government has been recently threatened withoverthrow by lawless violence; and whereas the representativesat my Court, of the United States, Great Britain and France,being cognizant of these threats, have offered me the promptassistance of the Naval forces of their respective countries,I hereby publicly proclaim my acceptance of the aid thusproffered in support of my Sovereignty. My independence ismore firmly established than ever before.

Whereas, It has pleased Almighty God to remove from this worldour beloved Sovereign, His late Majesty, Kamehameha III.; andwhereas, by the will of His late Majesty, and by theappointment and Proclamation of His Majesty and of the Houseof Nobles, His Royal Highness, Prince Liholiho, was declaredto be His Majesty's Successor. Therefore, Public Proclamationis hereby made, that Prince Alexander Liholiho is KING of theHawaiian Islands, under the style of Kamehameha IV. Godpreserve the King.
