Towards the close of the year 1814, ayoung naval officer, Lieutenant Chappell,of his Majesty’s ship Rosamond, who hadrecently returned, for the second time,from an expedition to the North-easterncoast of America, brought to Cambridgea collection of the dresses, weapons,&c. of the Indians inhabiting Hudson’sBay[1]; requesting that I would presentthese curiosities to the Public Libraryof the University.
