The present volume of translations from the Hebrewof Achad Ha-Am[1] differs in character from the volumeof Selected Essays published in 1912 by the JewishPublication Society of America. The earlier selectionwas confined, by the express desire of the publishingSociety, to essays dealing with the broader aspects ofJudaism and Jewish thought; essays of a more polemicalcharacter, in which the author has defined his attitudeto the modern Jewish national movement, were designedlyomitted.
