This sixth series of hymns from the GreekOffices is sent forth in the hope that someof the flowers that bloom in the gardens ofthe East, in which our Lord prayed and HisApostles tilled, may serve to beautify thehomes of the faithful in Western lands. Cutflowers lose their beauty and freshness soon, but not infrequently their perfume remains;and roots transplanted do not always continueto put forth leaves and blossoms in thatrichness which adorns them in their nativesoil; but if in the case of the culled flowers, which are here presented, some of their perfumemay chance to linger, it will probablyserve to suggest their original attractiveness. That they may, in some capacity, be used toadorn the worship of Christ in our sternerclime, is the earnest prayer of the translator.
